"?"?However, it now appears the 35-year-old's time at the club has come to an end and he is set for release, allowing him to sign with Championship promotion chasers Wolves.

The Brazilian international was said to have been in London on Monday night in order to discuss a potential deal with Molineux chairman Steve Morgan alongside his agent Jorge Mendes.

Following his move to Portugal from Brazilian side Cruzeiro in 2003 for £890k, the defender established him self as a rock in the heart of Benfica's back four.

Since then he had established himself as the club's longest serving captain and as a name to expect on the team sheet week-in, week-out.

However, after making a mere nine appearances over the course of the last campaign, speculation mounted that Luisao was set to leave the club.

And that looks to be the case as he is set to become the latest player added to new Wolves boss Walter Zenga's Benfica revolution following in the footsteps of former Benfica trio Helder Costa, Silvio and Joao Teixeira this summer.

Wolves fans will hope the incomers will give their side the impetuous to strive for promotion to the Premier League following a disappointing 13th place finish last time out.
