Super Eagles vice-captain, William Troost-Ekong, has shared an emotional message with PAOK fans after being sidelined for the rest of the season due to injury, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Troost-Ekong sustained the injury during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and is set to undergo surgery, with his return to action expected next season.

In a statement posted on his social media handle, the centre-back expressed his disappointment, stating, “Every player has played with pain at some point in their career to fight for club or country. It’s part of the game.”

Despite the injury, Troost-Ekong played through the pain during the AFCON knockout stages, where he notably scored three goals for Nigeria and was named Player of the Tournament.

His message to PAOK fans emphasized his commitment to returning stronger, saying, “My full focus is on getting back better than ever before.”
