Nigeria's William Troost-Ekong was in action for the first time for his new club, Salernitana as they beat Lecce in the Italian Serie A at the Stadio “Via del Mare, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Ekong joined four days ago from Watford made instant impact after he was fielded to make his debut against a Lecce side that was ahead of the Grenades prior to the match.

The Super Eagles assistant captain who was on ground for ninety minutes made a tackle and 19 passes keeping his usual composure to help his side to a 1-2 win after a seven-match losing streak.

Boulaye Dia opened score in the 5th minute before Tony Vihena made it two in the 20th minute. Strefezza pulled one back for the Lecce in the 23rd minute, but the score remained that way till the end.

The win leapfrog Salernitana to 14th a point ahead of Lecce with both sides on 21 and 20 points respectively on the Serie A standings.
