Wikki Tourists coach Abdu Maikaba is understood to have signed a two-year contract with Nigeria premier league club Akwa United.

He was considered ahead of Gbenga Ogunbote of Shooting Stars.

Both coaches were in Uyo this week and it was further gathered that Maikaba proved to be more readily available to replace Belgian coach Maurice Cooreman, who was sacked also this week.

Akwa United top target Imama Amapakabo opted to stay put at Rangers.

Maikaba led Wikki to qualify for next year’s CAF Confederation Cup after they finished third in the league this past season.

He has made it abundantly clear he wanted out at the Bauchi club due to the lack of support they endured from the state government.

The physics graduate has previously handled hometown club Kano Pillars and Enyimba.
