The Daily Mirror claims West Ham United have been scouting Ghanaian star Bernard Mensah and could make a move for the 20-year-old this summer.

The attacking Vitoria De Guimaraes star has been in good form with four goals and three assists in the Portuguese league this season and there are several reasons why he’d be a decent signing for Sam Allardyce.

According to transfermarkt, he can play in three different positions; left midfield, right midfield and in the hole behind a main striker.

That makes him a versatile player, which is significant with any player that West Ham are looking to invest in.

The fact he can cover multiple positions means he should get more chances to play for theHammers and he gives Allardyce plenty of different options.

He’s still a very young man and provides longevity in terms of the cash the Hammers would have to invest to sign him.

He’d unlikely be cheap if West Ham make a move, with the same source claiming that his contract doesn’t expire for another three years.

However, his age and his potential suggest he could become a key player running through the core of West Ham’s team over the next few seasons.

The Mirror reports that he graduated into the Vitoria first team from the B team, which shows he has good basic qualities in terms of a hard work rate.

It also shows that he understands how important it is to progress and develop at a club, which is something Allardyce will look for in any younger player coming into his West Ham team.

It’s difficult to predict the sort of fee it would take for West Ham to get him, but he has all the hallmarks of a decent signing.

Who do you think West Ham should be looking to sign?
