We are ready for the Super Falcons – Zambia coach
Zambia coach Bruce Mwape says he’s delighted with his team performance in the 5-0 defeat of pre tournament favorite Equatorial Guinea in the AWCON opening game at the Cape Coast Stadium on Sunday.
The Shepolopolo ran root with two goals from Racheal Kundananji and each from Ireen Lungu, Mary Mwakapila and Grace Chanda were enough to give the Zambians their first ever three points at the tournament.
Mwape, however says the victory is good for the confidence of the team but warned they must forget it quickly and turn attention to the Wednesday clash against defending champions Nigeria.
“I want to say it was a good result but my overall opinion is we still need to improve,” Mwape told the media.
“All we wanted was maximum points for our first game to give morale. Mostly I want to give credit to the players for doing what was required of them on the field.
“This chapter is closed we shall now prepare for Nigeria. The bottom line is that football is played 90 minutes.
The gaffer stressed further that the mission of his team at the tournament is to qualify for the FIFA Women‘s world cup in France.
“We are not playing names of teams and if people think Nigeria is untouchable well and good. Our mission here is to qualify to the World Cup,” he concluded.
The Shepolopolo will hope to continue their impressive form when they face another tournament favorite Nigeria on Wednesday.
Nigeria lost their opening game 1:0 to south Africa on Sunday, they must beat the Zambians to stand a chance of advancing to the next phase.
