WCQ: Victor Ikpeba asks Eagles to be wary of Amavubi
Former Nigeria international, Victor Ikpeba has cautioned the Super Eagles ahead of their World Cup Qualifying match against the Amavubi of Rwanda, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
The former African footballer of the year acknowledges the strength in the Eagles squad, but however urge that the team should not underate their opponent.
“I think to have a team (Rwanda) that is on top of the log and defeated us last year, it seems difficult,” Ikpeba said on SuperSport.
“We can’t underrate Rwanda. Yes, when you look at the 23-man list, it’s frightening because of the quality of talents we have there but we are still in African football. Names don’t’ win matches in African football games, you have to go there and fight,” the 51 year old Olympic Gold Medalist emphasized.
The Nigeria Super Eagles have it all to play for in Friday's World 2026 Cup qualifier at Amahoro Stadium as they seek to get their first win to resurrect the hope of qualification.
