The fight to topple Kwesi Nyantakyi as Ghana Football Association president took another shock twist yesterday after a relatively unknown Eric Opoku announced he was standing for the post.

Opoku, a journalist and football administrator, mailed Ghana’s leading football website www.GHANASoccernet.com, on Friday claiming he has garnered the requisite knowledge to enhance the local game.

He claims his yet to be published book ' The Road to Football Palace, Ghana edition' the football academic book outlines the way and how to develop the local game.

Opoku claims: “Local football the brand and base level of the Ghana Football Association has being in a depreciation and retrogressing. The Ghana league and the division one league are all in their bad states not to talk of the divisions two and three, new ideas and new strategies are needed to enhance these brands and the current GFA administration has no new ideas.

“Our local football has challenges which the current administration has no clue to solve it. Poor infrastructure, administrative lapses, lack professionalism, corruption allegations, lack of quality players, lack of cash investment and the empty stadium menace are all attributed to the inefficient administration of our football (ie, the GFA)

“Kwesi Nyantakyi has done a lot for the black stars which is a government product but his own product that is the local football, he has failed big time. With me and mine knowledge for the development for local football, I stand at pole position to develop the local game and empower the local clubs to raise the flag of Ghana high in CAF inter club competitions

“More on my journey to rescue Ghana football will be announced from next month, all who are interested in rescuing Ghana football are welcomed to join the battle. In a herculean task but wherever there is a will there is definitely a way.”
