Abdul Majeed Waris trained with the Black Stars on Thursday despite not being officially part of the Ghana squad for the opening 2017 AFCON qualifier against Mauritius.

The Turkish-based striker was a surprise participant in the team’s training session at the JMG Academy in the outskirts of Accra.

Waris was not named in the official 23-man squad released earlier this week by coach Avram Grant.

It is unknown whether the Trabzonspor man has been handed a late call up as the Ghana FA is yet to clarify his status despite his participation in Thursday’s session.

Waris has not played for the Black Stars for close to a year now.

He was growing into becoming an influential member of the Black Stars until his misfortune with injuries sustained in the lead up to the 2014 World Cup.

The former Swedish top scorer played a game for Ghana at last year’s finals in Brazil but has since not featured for Ghana at full international level.
