Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan says he is prepared to 'die' for the nation even if it means risking his health.
The prolific Black Stars striker has been struggling with illness since arriving in Equatorial Guinea with the team for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Gyan was forced to sit out Ghana's opening game of the tournament which they lost 2-1 to Senegal.
The Al Ain ace however lasted the entire duration and scored an epic goal in the last minute to hand Ghana a vital win over Algeria in their second group game despite not being fully fit.
Gyan now says he is prepared once more again to risk his health to play in the final Group C game against South Africa on Tuesday.
"Talking about my health, everyone knows about my condition," he said in the pre-match press conference.
"I am here to die for my nation. As a captain sometimes when my colleagues see me on the field it motivates them.
"That is what I am here to do. I am here to give everything to the nation and make sure we qualify to the next stage of the competition.
"As a captain I need to set an example to the team. Honestly I wouldn't say I am 100 percent [fit] but in life you need to take risks.
"I am always focused on anything I do and mentally I am very strong so I have to just keep on going."
Ghana will qualify for the quarter finals of the tournament with an expected win over South Africa on Tuesday in Mongomo.
