Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has accepted responsibility for the team's 2-1 loss to Rwanda in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The Nigerian side took the lead through Samuel Chukwueze's impressive individual effort, but conceded two quick goals due to defensive lapses.

Troost-Ekong, who plays as a centre-back, acknowledged that he failed to organise the defence effectively.

"Yes, you're right, and I take responsibility," Troost-Ekong told reporters. "As captain and the last man at the back, I know we should have done better."

The captain also attributed the goals conceded to the team's vulnerability to set-pieces.

"But don't forget, free kicks, like other set-piece situations, can trouble any team, and I think that's what happened today," he added.
