Tottenham given chance to make Mykhailo Mudryk loan permanent

Tottenham will have the option to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk permanently for £75m (€87.5m) after the two clubs agreed a season-long loan, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The buyout clause has been included in the loan agreement, but Tottenham are not obliged to activate it at the end of the season. The deal allows the 25-year-old to spend the current campaign with the north London club while leaving his long-term future undecided.

The transfer has been fully agreed, with Mudryk moving from Chelsea to Tottenham on a temporary basis. The financial terms mean Tottenham can secure the Ukraine international for a fixed fee if they decide to proceed with a permanent transfer.

Romano reported that the clause is worth £75m, or €87.5m. Its inclusion gives Tottenham control over whether to pursue a full deal, but the decision will remain theirs rather than being an automatic requirement of the loan.

Mudryk’s move comes after he completed a suspension at the end of July. He had been unavailable for more than a year and a half following a positive doping test, with the ban preventing him from playing during that period.

The Tottenham agreement therefore provides the winger with the opportunity to return to competitive football after his lengthy absence. It also gives Chelsea the possibility of receiving a substantial transfer fee if Tottenham choose to make the move permanent.

Chelsea signed Mudryk from Shakhtar at the beginning of 2023 for €70m. The London club’s initial investment could now be followed by an additional £75m fee if Tottenham exercise their option, although there is no obligation for the club to do so.

For now, Mudryk’s immediate future has been settled through the loan arrangement. His stay at Tottenham will last for the current season, while the permanent-transfer clause leaves the final decision on his Chelsea departure until a later stage.

The agreement puts a clearly defined valuation on the winger following his extended period out of the game. Tottenham can use the option if they are satisfied with his performances after his return, but Mudryk remains a Chelsea player unless the clause is activated.
