Timbers thump the Dynamo
The Portland Timbers moved off the bottom of the standings in the Western Conference on Saturday with a 4-0 victory over the Houston Dynamo.
It was the second consecutive 4-0 victory for the Timbers, and third triumph overall, after defeating the Los Angeles Galaxy by the same margin in the US Open Cup and also getting the better of the Seattle Sounders 2-1.
Marvin Loría, Diego Valeri with a penalty, Brian Fernandez and Jeremy Ebobisse were all on target for the hosts who now sit in 10th place in the Western Conference.
Portland has played the least amount of games of any team in the West and could easily jump into the postseason places with a couple of victories in their games in hand.
The Timbers victory leaves Sporting Kansas City at the foot of the table, level on points with the Colorado Rapids, but having won less games than the latter.
Colorado drew 2-2 with the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday at the BC Place.
The hosts had to come from behind after the Rapids scored twice in the first 20 minutes to shock the Whitecaps.
Fredy Montero and Yordy Reyna spared the blushes of Vancouver who are now unbeaten in five consecutive outings.
Sporting Kansas City will have the opportunity to move out of the cellar in the standings on Sunday when they visit the Columbus Crew in the only game on the MLS slate.
Columbus is also struggling as the Crew sit third from bottom in the Eastern Conference ahead of only the New England Revolution and FC Cincinnati.
Columbus are 17/10 to defeat Kansas City on Sunday. The visitors are 29/20 while the draw is 5/2.
