Hull City have named Grant McCann as their new head coach after Nigel Adkins decided earlier this month not to extend his contract with the Tigers.

McCann moves to the KCOM Stadium after guiding Doncaster Rovers to the League One play-offs last season.

The 39-year-old also had a spell in charge of Peterborough United before arriving at the Keepmoat Stadium last summer.

During his playing career he represented Northern Ireland 39 times as well as starring for West Ham United, Cheltenham Town, Barnsley, Scunthorpe and Peterborough.

After agreeing a 12-month rolling contract at Hull, McCann said: "I'm delighted to be here and I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead.

"I'm a very ambitious person and I always have been. To be in the Championship is the next step for me and I'm pleased to be taking that step with a great club like Hull City.

"The KCOM Stadium is an impressive place, the training ground is excellent and there is a strong squad of players here. Hopefully we can have good times together and a successful season."

Adkins said in a statement earlier this month that his and the club's futures were "not aligned" following talks over extending his deal.

Hull City areĀ 14/1 to be promoted from the Championship in the 2019/20 campaign.
