"?Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish always has his socks pulled low, seemingly never wearing the only bit of protective kit footballers normally strap on: shinpads.

Grealish has had that look from the time he burst onto the scene as a teenager, but the fact remains that the 21-year-old does wear shinpads. Only thing is, they're kid-sized.

The player has explained that it's a superstitious belief which has led him to keep this practice all his life. It's also said to help him control the ball better.

Apparently, Grealish can wear whatever variety of shinpads he wants, as while the referees have to ensure that the gear is worn, they have no power over what size a player chooses.

"It's a superstition that I've done all my life and I'm going to keep it that way," Grealish explained some time in 2015, via the "?Mirror.

"A few referees have tried telling me but I've got to keep it like that.

"I haven't had a kick on my shin yet and hopefully not any time soon."
