Bayer Leverkusen secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena to advance to the DFB Pokal quarter-finals, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

The turning point of the match came in the 17th minute when Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was sent off for a collision with Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Bayern Munich held firm until the 69th minute when Nathan Tella's header sealed the win for Leverkusen.

A pinpoint cross from Alex Grimaldo was met by Tella, who scored his first goal in the competition to send Leverkusen into the quarter-finals.

Bayern Munich had chances to equalise through Dayot Upamecano, Kingsley Coman, and Kim Min-jae, but Leverkusen's defence held firm to secure the win.

The victory marked Xabi Alonso's eighth successive win in the DFB Pokal as Leverkusen boss, while Bayern Munich's wait for a 21st German Cup title continues.
