Tanzania head coach Miguel Gamondi has selected a 24-man squad for the Taifa Stars’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header against Nigeria.

Domestic-based players make up the majority of the group, with Tanzania Premier League clubs supplying most of the selections.

Yanga FC and Azam FC, the country’s league champions, have five representatives each. Kagera Sugar and Singida Black Stars are also represented, with one player from each club included in the squad.

Gamondi has also called up several players based outside Tanzania. Novatus Miroshi, who plays for Turkish Super Lig club Goztepe, is part of the group, alongside Cyprian Kachewele of Ukraine’s Kryvbas.

Bernard Kamongo, who plays for FC Dallas in the United States, is the other foreign-based player named.

The Taifa Stars will face Nigeria as they look to recover from a difficult start to their qualifying campaign.

Tanzania began with a 2-0 defeat by Guinea-Bissau before drawing 1-1 with Madagascar in their second match. The results have left Gamondi’s side seeking an improved return from the two meetings with the Super Eagles.

The first match is scheduled for Friday, November 13, when Tanzania travel to the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo for the matchday-three fixture.

The teams will meet again four days later, with Tanzania hosting the return game in Dar es Salaam.
