Super Eagles to Face Jordan in March Friendly Amid World Cup Uncertainty
The Nigeria national football team will take on the Jordan national football team in an international friendly scheduled to hold in Amman between 23 and 31 March 2026, following an agreement reached between both football federations, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.
Jordan, who have qualified for their first-ever appearance at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, are expected to use the encounter as part of their preparations for the global showpiece. The Middle Eastern nation has been drawn into a group that includes African opposition, among them Algeria, making the clash against Nigeria a valuable preparatory test.
For the Super Eagles, the fixture provides an important opportunity to regroup after narrowly missing out on World Cup qualification. Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to use the friendly to assess new talents and further blend emerging players into the senior squad as Nigeria begins planning for upcoming competitions.
Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the World Cup were dashed after a penalty shootout defeat to DR Congo in the African qualifying playoffs staged in Morocco. However, the Nigeria Football Federation has continued to contest the outcome off the pitch.
In December, the NFF submitted a formal complaint to FIFA, alleging that DR Congo fielded ineligible players during the playoffs. A ruling on the case is reportedly expected on 16 February 2026.
If FIFA rules in Nigeria’s favour, the Super Eagles could still secure a spot in the inter-confederation qualifying playoffs scheduled to be held next month in Mexico. Until then, the March friendly against Jordan offers Chelle’s side a timely opportunity to maintain match sharpness and squad cohesion amid the lingering uncertainty surrounding their World Cup fate.
