Super Eagles defender Tanimu U-15 tourney holds in Edo
The Edo State Football Association (Edo FA) is organizing an under-15 football carnival tagged 'Tanimu U-15 Football Tournament' in Benin's honor as the sponsor Super Eagles and former Bendel Insurance FC Defender, Benjamin Tanimu has already donated trophies for the tournament
In a couple of weeks, the under-15 football clubs in Edo State will be engaged by the Edo State Football Association in a football tournament to be held across the three senatorial districts of the State.
Briefing Journalists in Benin City at the weekend, the Chairman, Edo Football Association Fred Newton Erhunmwunsee stated that the former Bendel Insurance FC defence stalwart, Tanimu who cut his teeth playing grassroots football on the streets of Benin City, has decided to give back to the society where he was discovered.
Erhunmwunse disclosed that the former Paragon Sports Academy (Delight) youngster is very eager to help engage the youths of Edo State with this football tournament, adding that the ex-Ihefu SC of Tanzania Star is impressed with the progress made so far in football development in Edo State by the Edo State Football Association since 2023 when this present Board came onboard.
"I want to inform us that in the next few days, we shall begin the process of another big event in Edo state for our youth clubs, this time for under 15. Former Bendel Insurance defense strongman Benjamin Tanimu has donated a trophy to Edo FA to engage under 15 boys.
"The event will take place across the three senatorial districts of the State," Erhunmwense said.
The Edo FA boss added, "Benjamin came through the grassroots and he has become a huge success beginning from here in Benin City with Bendel Insurance. He is impressed with our programmes and wants to contribute to what we have done since 2023.
"We are grateful to him and we promise to deliver as usual."
According to the Crawley Town FC of England defender, a lot awaits the winners; trophies, medals, Top Scorer award; Most Valuable Player award, Best Midfielder, Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, and other tournament souvenirs will be available.
Benjamin Tanimu becomes the second Super Eagles player after Osayi Samuel to donate to grassroots football in the State with the Edo FA as organisers.
Meanwhile, the Edo FA boss has asked the various youth teams to begin preparation for the big tournament as registration will commence soonest.
