Sundowns extend Africa’s winning run in Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns have ensured that the Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup has produced an African winner for the third consecutive year after beating Al Ahli 2-1 in the 2026 final.

The South African side followed victories by Al Ahly in 2024 and Pyramids FC in 2025. Al Ahly defeated Al Ain FC 3-0 in the inaugural edition, before Pyramids FC won 3-1 away to Al Ahli the following year.

The sequence gives African clubs three titles from three editions and underlines their growing dominance in the intercontinental competition. Rather than simply competing with teams from other regions, African representatives have established themselves as the tournament’s leading force.
