"?Southampton manager Claude Puel is rumoured to be interested in bringing 24-year-old Laurent Jans, who has been capped 24 times for Luxembourg, to St Mary's in the January transfer window.

The Saints boss sees Jans, according to the "?Mirror, as the solution to his right-back issues, with first-choice and Euro 2016 winner Cedric Soares on the treatment table alongside Jeremy Pied, while understudy Cuco Martina struggles for form.

The full-back, who currently plies his trade for Belgian Pro League outfit Waasland-Beveren, would become the first Luxembourger to appear in the Premier League, making his country the 106th to have a representative in the division's history.

Armenian Henrik Mkhitaryan took the tally to 105 when he debuted for Manchester United, following his summer move from Borussia Dortmund - which just goes to show what a global spectacle the Premier League has become.

If Puel does secure the services of Jans, former Southampton boss Ronald Koeman would likely move to bring Martina, whom he brought to St Mary's in 2014, to his new club Everton, as cover for Republic of Ireland star Seamus Coleman.

Koeman was reportedly interested in a swoop for the Curaçaoan - himself the first person to represent Curaçao in England's top flight - in the summer, before Claude Puel blocked any bids due to the injury suffered by Jeremy Pied.

Southampton are not the only side interested in Jans, who had a trial at Scottish Premiership side Dundee two years ago, with Belgian powerhouses Anderlecht weighing up a move for the right-back.

Championship outfits Aston Villa, resurgent under new manager Steve Bruce, and Huddersfield Town, who sit third in the division under the popular David Wagner have also reportedly registered an interest in the full-back.

There is interest from Germany too, with Bundesliga strugglers Werder Bremen, who have just two wins to their name this season, having a look at the 24-year-old.
