South Africa-based John Paintsil was expecting a Ghana call up for 2015 AFCON
Defender John Paintsil says he was expecting a call up to the Black Stars for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 33-year-old is a regular first team player at South African top flight side Maritzburg United.
Paintsil has not played for Ghana since their disappointing Africa Cup of Nations campaign two years ago in South Africa.
The former Fulham right-back has managed to work his way back into regular competitive club action at Maritzburg in his bid to earn a return to the Black Stars.
He was however overlooked by coach Avram Grant in his provisional 31-man squad for this month’s tournament.
Paintsil reveals he was expecting a call up since he was playing regularly at club level.
“I was expecting a call up since I was playing week in week out,” he told Metro TV’s KickOff show.
“But you must respect the players who have been called.
“All the players that have been called, I think can play.
“So I will wish the boys well and we must support the team.”
