Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has played down the severity of the hamstring injury sustained by Luke Shaw in the 2-0 friendly win over Perth Glory.

The England left-back had to be replaced seven minutes from time against the A-League outfit, having been introduced at half-time - as Solskjaer switched his entire XI around.

Luke he felt his hamstring was a little bit tight, so there was no point taking any more risk.

However, the United manager does not believe that the niggle was anything too serious, insisting that he was just trying to be careful with the 24-year-old.

He told the club's official website: "Luke he felt his hamstring was a little bit tight, so there was no point taking any more risk.

"You saw him after he made a signal that he wanted to come off, he still kept on running, so it's not a bad one I think. It was just a precaution.

"We've been working hard and he felt some tightness there, so we'll have to assess him and probably rest him for a few days."

Shaw, signed from Southampton in the summer of 2014, enjoyed his best season to date at Old Trafford last term, making 29 Premier League appearances and a further 11 in the FA Cup and Champions League.

He helped United finish in sixth place in the league standings, meaning that they will play in the Europa League this season.

The Red Devils are 11/2 to win the Europa League, with Arsenal 8/1 and five-time winners Sevilla 16/1.
