Socceroos get a feel of San Pedro Sula
San Pedro Sula: Australia trained in San Pedro Sula for the first time on Monday ahead of Friday’s 2018 FIFA World Cup Intercontinental Play-off (CONCACAF-Asian Zone) first-leg match against Honduras.
Two of the first players to settle in San Pedro Sula were Craig Goodwin and Aziz Behich.
Goodwin and Behich have both been in strong form for their clubs in Europe recently – Goodwin excelling for Sparta Rotterdam in the Netherlands, and Behich scoring three goals in his past four games for Bursaspor in Turkey.
The Socceroos will continue to train at the Estadio Francisco Morazán on Tuesday and Wednesday, before the squad familiarises itself with Friday’s match venue, the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano, on Thursday.
Ange Postecoglou’s side will go head-to-head with Honduras at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano on Friday, before returning home to Sydney to host the second leg at Stadium Australia on November 15.
Should Australia successfully defeat Honduras over two legs, they will seal a place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
