Singh in line for Bayern deal
Wellington Phoenix look set to lose yet another key player during the off-season, with Sarpreet Singh finalising a move to Bayern Munich.
The 20-year-old flew to Europe last week to conclude the deal with the German club and if he signs he will play for their reserve side Bayern Munich II, who have just been promoted to 3.Liga.
Singh came to international notice this year when he played four games for New Zealand at the Under-20 World Cup.
In his second A-League campaign with the Phoenix last season he scored five goals and claimed eight assists.
Singh's long-time mentor Hiroshi Miyazawa said: "Clubs like Bayern Munich have very quality scouts, very quality youth development people, experts who search players all around the world. They found Sarpreet's talent, recognised his quality and that's credit to Sarpreet."
Wellington general manager David Dome said the club was yet to receive a formal offer for Singh, who is currently in Austria at a pre-season camp with the Bayern II team.
Miyazawa has been in contact with the midfielder and is optimistic a three-year deal will be finalised in the coming days.
"Everything is under control, it's just minor details to agree," he added.
The Phoenix have seen 13 players leave since the end of last season, including appearance record holder Andrew Durante and Roy Krishna, who won the double of Golden Boot and A-League player of the season in 2018-19.
The club have announced the signing of 20-year-old forward Callum McCowatt, who scored 21 goals in 16 games for Premiership champions Eastern Suburbs last season.
Phoenix are 25/1 to win the 2020 Grand Final, with Perth Glory 4/1 and Newcastle Jets 14/1.
