Everton head coach Marco Silva is confident that new signing Jean-Philippe Gbamin has the qualities needed to be a success at Goodison Park.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has joined the Toffees for an undisclosed fee from German side Mainz, signing a five-year contract to replace Idrissa Gueye, who left the club to join Paris Saint-Germain.

He is ready for this challenge - to come and help us to keep getting better.

Ivory Coast international Gbamin becomes the fourth addition made by the Merseysiders so far this summer, with goalkeeper Jonas Lossl and midfield duo Andre Gomes and Fabian Delph also drafted in.

Silva told the club's official website: "Jean-Philippe is a player who has developed really well during the last three seasons and achieved a very good level of performance playing in a high-level competition like the Bundesliga.

"He is ready for this challenge - to come and help us to keep getting better. He is full of ambition to play for Everton, fits with our model and he will give us different solutions in our midfield."

Gbamin started his career in France with Lens and worked his way up through the age groups to become a French Under-21 international.

However, having moved to Germany in the summer of 2016, Gbamin then switched allegiances to the country of his birth and made his full international for the Ivory Coast against the Netherlands in June 2017.

Everton start the new Premier League season with a trip to Selhurst Park to take on Crystal Palace on Saturday 10th August.

The visitors are 6/4 to claim a victory over the Eagles, with the draw priced at 9/4 and a 1-1 final scoreline available at 11/2.
