Silva heaps praise on Richarlison
Everton boss Marco Silva is pleased with how well Richarlison performed last season and believes the Brazil international can be even better this term.
The 22-year-old scored 14 times for Everton in 2018/19 following his big-money transfer from Watford and went on to play for Brazil this summer as they won the Copa America.
Richarlison reported for training on Monday after winning his 13th cap three weeks ago as Brazil clinched their first South American title for 12 years.
Silva had been criticised for spending an initial transfer fee of £35million on Richarlison but insists it has been money well spent.
The Toffees boss said: "Doing well in an important competition with the national team will give Richarlison extra belief and possibly more consistency as a football player, which is something we are working with him to achieve.
"He had a fantastic 2018/19 season. I remember what many people said last summer when I took the decision to sign Richarlison with the support of our board and owner.
"It was not an easy deal. It was a big amount we paid to buy one player. But I knew him very well. I was with him for six months [at Watford] and for me that was enough to know his quality. It was really easy to convince him to work with us again and to join Everton."
Everton are 6/4 to win their first game of the season against Crystal Palace and 7/2 to finish in the top six of the Premier League in 2019/20.
