Form Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, has refuted claims of seeking the vacant position of Super Eagles head coach, amidst speculation of link him to the team, Nigeriasoccernet.com reports.

Siasia was banned from all football activities for life in August 2019 by the world football body FIFA and fined $50,000 for agreeing to ‘the manipulation of matches’ for betting purposes.

But in 2021, after an appeal, his ban was reduced to five years by the Court of Arbitration for Sports which lapsed in August 2024.

This obvious reason, the two time Olympic medal winning coach said is a constraint to his application for the Eagles’ role.

“I did not apply for the Super Eagles coaching job because I know FIFA has yet to lift the suspension on me.

“I don’t know where those who reported that I applied got their story from.

“It’s common sense, I cannot be suspended and be applying for a job.

“I know I would not even be considered for it,” the silver medal-winning coach with Nigeria’s Olympic team at the Beijing Olympics told Completesports.com.

Siasia’s statement has seen the number of local coaches reduced with the likes of Emmanuel Amunieke,Daniel Amokachi, United States U19 team coach, Michael Nsien, former Super Eagles assistant coach Sylvanus Okpala and Finidi George, one the assistants to Jose Peseiro.
