Sarri issues Kepa drop hint
Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has hinted that goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga could be dropped for Wednesday's Premier League visit of Tottenham.
Sarri revealed the news at his press conference ahead of the London derby at Stamford Bridge after the Spanish goalkeeper was fined a week's wages for defying him when refusing to leave the pitch when being substituted towards the end of extra-time in Sunday's Carabao Cup penalty shoot-out final defeat against Manchester City.
I want to send a message to my group. The message could be Kepa is on the pitch or Kepa is out of the pitch.
Maurizio Sarri
The Italian tactician later said the incident was a "misunderstanding" and the matter was "closed" as far as he was concerned, but it seems that Kepa could still be further punished by sitting out the Spurs clash.
When asked if he will play, Sarri said: "I don't know, I have to decide. Maybe yes, maybe no.
"I want to send a message to my group. The message could be Kepa is on the pitch or Kepa is out of the pitch.
"He made a big mistake, and there are some consequences. If the consequence is to play, he has to be ready to play. If the consequence is the bench, he has to be ready to go to the bench.
"I spoke with Kepa, then we spoke all together. He said sorry to the technical staff but it was not enough. Then he said sorry to his team-mates and the club. He made a big mistake but we don't want to kill him."
Chelsea, who are 6/5 to secure a top-four finish this season, are 13/10 to bounce back from their cup final defeat with a win this week, while Spurs are priced at 9/4 and the draw is 5/2.
