Santos upset favorite Monterrey to advance to the semifinals

In a massive upset, it was Santos Laguna who advanced to the semifinals of the Clausura 2021 by knocking out giants Monterrey in a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.
The game started with Rayados needing a win after their 2-1 defeat in the first leg. The Regios came out strong in the first half, and finally broke through Santos' defense in the 29th minute thanks to a Maximiliano Meza strike from outside the box, after Santos' goalkeeper had parried a corner at the argentine's feet. Santos, forced to respond in order to survive, came out in the second half with a much more aggressive attitude, trying to find a goal that would put them back ahead in the aggregate. When all hope seemed lost and it seemed as Monterrey would advance, Santos' prayers were answered through a Ronaldo Prieto goal in the first minute of added time. It was unfortunate for Monterrey, who conceded on a corner thanks to an unlucky rebound.
