Burnley's move for Sam Clucas is off after they failed to agree personal terms with the Swansea City midfielder.
The Clarets had hoped to sign the 27-year-old former Hull City player for a fee of around £8m.
Other Premier League clubs are thought to be interested in Clucas, who Swansea are keen to offload in order to make signings of their own.
The Swans have targeted Brentford midfielder Ryan Woods, who is likely to cost £6-7m.
Woods, 24, was left out of the Bees' squad for their opening Championship win over Rotherham because of the uncertainty around his future.

Clucas was not fit for Swansea's Championship win at Sheffield United on Saturday, but manager Graham Potter said the player would be fit for a medical, if one was required.
The midfielder was signed from Hull City in August 2017 in a £16m package, which involved Stephen Kingsley going the other way.

Defender Alfie Mawson has moved to Fulham on a four-year deal, with Potter also confirming Crystal Palace's interest in last season's top scorer Jordan Ayew.
Potter would not comment on speculation linking Palace's Dutch defender Jairo Riedewald as part of a swap deal.
"Crystal Palace have shown an interest in Jordan so there are discussions at the moment," he said.
Potter says Swansea would be sensible with the transfer window closing on Thursday, 9 August.
"We have said quite clearly we are not going to sell players for less than what they are worth, so we need to make sure we get that right," said Potter.
"And then we look to try and improve ourselves."
