Saiss denies Fulham victory
Romain Saiss snatched a scrappy late equaliser for Wolves as they denied Fulham a vital win in 1-1 Boxing Day stalemate at Craven Cottage.
The point takes Fulham off the bottom of the table, still three points from safety, at least until Huddersfield take on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Fulham were the better side in the first half but couldn't take their chances, with Aleksandar Mitrovic more guilty than most.
Despite an improved Wolves in the second half it was sub Ryan Sessegnon that volleyed the hosts into the lead with 16 minutes left from a poor punch clear from Rui Patricio.
I am a little bit frustrated but the draw is right.
Claudio Ranieri
Fulham sensed just a third league success of the season but with just over five minutes to go, van Cavaleiro's cross was not dealt with by Joe Bryan and Saiss was there to level things up.
Fulham have now taken six points from seven matches under Claudio Ranieri, one more than they managed in 12 games under predecessor Slavisa Jokanovic in the early months of the season.
Fulham are 11/10 to beat Huddersfield at Craven Cottage on Saturday. The Terriers are 5/2 with the draw 23/10.
The Fulham boss could only reflect on a frustrating outcome for his team.
"I am a little bit frustrated but the draw is right. Yes we missed the opportunity, but it's OK," Ranieri said.
"It was a good performance from my players, everyone understood the problem and was working for the problem.
"When you are bottom, you have to fight, take chances, continue to fight, I am satisfied with the performance. It was only the second match we have played with this system."
