Safonov’s goalkeeper award nomination marks international recognition, says Berezovsky

Matvey Safonov is unlikely to win the goalkeeper of the year award, but his nomination is itself evidence that his performances have been recognised abroad, according to former Dynamo Moscow and Armenia goalkeeper Roman Berezovsky.

Safonov is one of 10 players shortlisted for the prize, which was previously named after Lev Yashin.

The winner will be announced on 26 October in London during the ceremony for the Ballon d’Or.
