Ronaldo double helps Juventus see off poor Udinese
ALLIANZ STADIUM (Turin) – Juventus demolished Udinese on Sunday with Cristiano Ronaldo bagging two in a somewhat simple 3-1 win at the Allianz Stadium.
It an afternoon of exhibition stuff as Ronaldo opened the scoring early on, then doubled the lead 37 minutes in, before Leonardo Bonucci tripled the lead before half time. Then, in time added on Ignacio Pussetto pulled one back, though it was merely a consolation for the away side.
As a result, Juventus go top of Serie A, if only temporarily as Inter take on Fiorentina later in the day. Udinese, meanwhile, now sit one place above the relegation zone.
It took just nine minutes for Juventus to break the deadlock as Leonardo Bonucci played a long ball towards Paulo Dybala, but his scuffed effort from inside the box came off the defender and into the path of Ronaldo who drive the ball into the bottom corner.
Some great work by the Gonzalo Higuain, Dybala, Ronaldo trident put the No.10 through, but his deflected effort went into the side netting.
Dybala did have the ball in the back of the net once again for Juventus, but he controlled with his arm, thus it was ruled out.
A blistering counter attack, started by Dybala, almost led to Juventus second as Higuain’s low drive was well saved by Juan Musso.
Higuain was at it again, this time a shot from 20 yards needed to be pushed away by the Udinese goalkeeper.
Ronaldo got his second just after the half hour as Higuain turned provider, playing a wonderful ball through the Udinese backline and the Juventus No.7 hit it first time to double the lead.
Things went from bd to worse for the away side as Merih Demiral headed a corner back across goal to Bonucci, who then nodded in off the crossbar.
Initially, there was no let up from Juventus in the second half as Dybala skimmed the top of the bar with a delicate chip, though at the other end Kevin Lasagna managed to break through the Bianconeri backline, only to have Gianluigi Buffon in the way.
A brilliant Bonucci tackle denied Lasagna, who had gotten himself in on goal, then Demiral deflected a Pussetto strike out for a corner. Then a double save from Buffon, first from Lasagna, then Seko Fofana, kept Udinese at bay.
Ronaldo could, and should have had a hat-trick, after a neat turn and shot from eight yards out, only to be denied by a fantastic Musso reaction save, before moments later hitting the post.
Pussetto got one back at the death, slotting home from close range.
