Riyad Mahrez in advanced talks over Al-Shamal move in Qatar
Riyad Mahrez is in advanced negotiations to join Qatar Stars League club Al-Shamal after leaving Al-Ahli this summer and ending his Algeria career following the 2026 World Cup.
The 35-year-old winger is currently a free agent and is preparing for what could be his final challenge in football.
A move to Al-Shamal would see Mahrez reunite with fellow Algeria international Baghdad Bounedjah, restoring an Algerian presence at the Qatari club.
The prospect of playing in the AFC Champions League Elite with a Qatar-based side has helped persuade the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations winner to continue his career in the Gulf.
Mahrez, who was born in Clichy, had attracted interest from clubs around the world in recent months, including in Europe and Brazil. However, he has opted for continuity in the region after his spell with Al-Ahli.
The proposed transfer would give the highly decorated Algeria international an ideal setting for one final chapter at the highest level of continental football.
