Richarlison’s Tottenham future uncertain as Brazilian stops training with squad

Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi says Richarlison is no longer training with the club’s first team after the Brazilian forward decided to take that step himself.

“He made the decision himself. Not me, not the club. You need not ask me about it, because I did not make the decision and I am not responsible for this situation,” De Zerbi told reporters.

The comments come after it emerged that Richarlison wants to leave Tottenham. A proposed move to Everton subsequently fell through, while Turkish club Trabzonspor are now showing interest in the 29-year-old forward.

Tottenham could also terminate Richarlison’s contract, according to reports. His current agreement with the club runs until June 2027.

De Zerbi stressed that the decision not to train with the squad was not made by either himself or Tottenham. His remarks place responsibility for the situation with Richarlison, while the player’s next move remains uncertain.

Richarlison’s immediate position at Tottenham has therefore become the focus of attention, with the forward not currently working alongside the rest of the team. The collapse of the proposed Everton transfer has left Trabzonspor as the club publicly linked with him.

No agreement has been confirmed between Tottenham and Trabzonspor, and Richarlison remains under contract in north London for another season beyond the current campaign, through June 2027. That means any permanent departure would require either a transfer agreement or a decision by Tottenham to end the player’s contract.

De Zerbi’s comments also clarify that the club’s head coach does not regard himself as responsible for Richarlison’s absence from training. The manager said journalists should not question him about the decision because it was taken neither by him nor by Tottenham.

The uncertainty follows the failed attempt to arrange Richarlison’s return to Everton. The proposed switch did not go through, and attention has now turned to Trabzonspor’s reported interest in the Brazil international.

For now, Richarlison is not training with Tottenham, while the club’s options regarding his contract and a possible move remain unresolved.
