Real Madrid edge Barcelona in Ballon d’Or nominations

Real Madrid have finished ahead of Barcelona in the number of players included on this year’s 30-man Ballon d’Or shortlist, winning the Spanish giants’ head-to-head count 4-3.

The comparison between the two clubs has attracted attention from football fans following the publication of the nominees. Real Madrid have four representatives on the list, while Barcelona have three.

Jude Bellingham, Marc Cucurella, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior are the players listed for Real Madrid. Barcelona’s nominees are Pau Cubarsi, Lamine Yamal and Rodri.

The figures give Real Madrid a narrow advantage over their long-standing rivals, with the club’s total exceeding Barcelona’s by one nominee. The 4-3 split is the main talking point from the representation of Spain’s leading clubs in the Ballon d’Or nominations.

This year’s award ceremony will take place in London on 26 October. The event will bring together the nominees as the latest winner of one of football’s most prominent individual honours is announced.

Ousmane Dembele, the Paris Saint-Germain forward, won the award last year. He therefore enters the new Ballon d’Or cycle as the reigning holder, while the seven names connected with Real Madrid and Barcelona will be among those discussed ahead of this year’s ceremony.

The full shortlist contains 30 nominees, with the representation of the two Spanish clubs providing one of the clearest comparisons in the announcement. Real Madrid’s four selections place them marginally ahead of Barcelona, who have three players included.

For Real Madrid, Bellingham, Cucurella, Mbappe and Vinicius Junior make up the quartet named in the nomination list. Barcelona’s presence comes through Cubarsi, Yamal and Rodri.

The award will be presented in London on 26 October, with Dembele’s success last year providing the immediate recent background to the ceremony.
