Real Jaen hold Huesca after playing more than a half with nine men
Real Jaen secured a point against Huesca after playing more than half of an entertaining match with only nine players on the pitch.
The teams exchanged four goals during an open first 20 minutes, scoring twice each in a fast-paced start to the contest. The match then took a dramatic turn in the closing stages of the first half when Real Jaen forward Moha Keita was shown a second yellow card.
That dismissal left Real Jaen with 10 players, but the situation became even more difficult moments later. The club’s captain, Xavi Moyano, approached the referee to discuss the decision involving Keita. The official reacted by showing Moyano a red card as well.
Real Jaen were therefore reduced to nine men before half-time and had to play the remainder of the match at a significant numerical disadvantage. The players left on the field were forced to cover not only for themselves but also for the two team-mates who had been sent off.
Despite Huesca’s advantage, Real Jaen managed to withstand the pressure and claim a point. Huesca were unable to make use of their two-man advantage and the match finished 2-2.
The dramatic game was played in Spain’s third tier, where Real Jaen and Huesca produced an unusually eventful contest. Four goals arrived within the opening 20 minutes, setting the tone for a match that then became defined by the two dismissals.
Keita’s second booking at the end of the first half changed the balance of the game, while Moyano’s subsequent red card left Real Jaen facing the prospect of completing more than 45 minutes with nine players. The team nevertheless remained organised enough to prevent Huesca from turning its numerical superiority into a winning goal.
For Real Jaen, the draw represented a hard-earned point after a prolonged period with two fewer players. Huesca, meanwhile, will look back on the result as a missed opportunity after being given such a substantial advantage before the interval.
