Barcelona manager Hans-Dieter Flick says captain Raphinha Dias was deeply affected by the death of Tenerife forward Jesus de Miguel.

The 30-year-old striker died in hospital after suffering a serious collision with the Andorra goalkeeper during a Segunda match.

Raphinha was visibly emotional when speaking about the tragedy after Barcelona’s 3-0 home victory over Aston Villa in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Brazil forward scored twice in the match, but his post-match comments focused on the death of de Miguel, whose condition had been reported after the incident before his death was confirmed.

Flick said the news had been particularly difficult for Raphinha, who wore the Barcelona captain’s armband during the win.
