NPFL side Enugu Rangers striker Israel Abia has received the prestigious Eunisell Boot awarded to the top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) during the 2019/20 season.

Abia scored 12 goals to claim the Eunisell Boot, which is sponsored by West Africa’s largest independent chemical as well as oil and gas engineering solutions company, Eunisell.

Each goal scored by the winner of the award is valued at N200,000 by Eunisell to inspire players to raise the bar in goal scoring.

The coronation of the Rangers striker was delayed by the Covid19 Pandemic.

Abia was presented with the Eunisell Boot and a cash prize of N2,400,000 million, at an impressive ceremony, in line with Covid19 protocol.

Speaking during the award, Eunisell Group Managing Director, Chika Ikenga, represented by Manager, Corporate Finance, Eunisell Limited, Kenneth Okeiyi, said: “Eunisell remains committed to sponsoring the Eunisell Boot award for players in the NPFL, despite the Covid19 pandemic.

“It is our desire to inspire, recognize and celebrate players and see the NPFL develop into a top class league.”

An elated Abia applauded Eunisell for their pioneering role in enhancing players’ performance in the NPFL as well as his teammates at Rangers and his former club, Sunshine Stars.

“This award will serve as a catalyst for me. It is a recognition I will cherish,” he remarked.

“My teammates contributed to this feat and I must thank them.”

Abia scored seven goals at Sunshine Stars, then switched to Rangers, where he scored five goals.

The Eunisell Boot presentation ceremony was also attended by General Manager of Enugu Rangers, Davidson Owumi, who incidentally was the first recognised highest goal scorer in the domestic league.

Former winners of the Eunisell Boot include Junior Lokosa (2018) as well as the duo of Mfon Udoh and Ibrahim Sunusi (2019).
