The 2021/22 Premier League season was a clean one, with no red cards given out in nearly two complete rounds of games.
On Monday night, though, when West Ham hosted Leicester at the London Stadium, everything changed when Ayoze Pérez was sent off for awkwardly putting his studs in goalscorer Pablo Fornals' shin with the Hammers leading 1-0, Leicester were reduced to ten men.
Before issuing a red card and sending Pérez off, referee Michael Oliver reviewed the VAR monitor.
