Premier League goal panel scrap off Odion Ighalo's Chelsea goal
Watford striker Odion Ighalo has had his goal against Chelsea on Boxing Day chalked off by the Premier League goal’s panel.
The panel adjudged that the blazing Super Eagles forward’s deflected strike was an own goal by Gary Cahill.
Odion Ighalo, who currently has 14 goals this season, has received the news in good faith and remains unmoved by the panel’s verdict.
“I have heard the verdict of the FA and I have taken it in my strides. I don’t have a problem with it at all. I hope to get more goals before the end of the season starting tomorrow (Wednesday) game against Southampton,” Ighalo was quoted by SportingLife.
“I can never be disappointed because I know I will still get more goals. I know what I am capable of doing and with God on my side, more goals will come,” he concluded.
Watford’s coach Quique Flores Sanchez, while reacting to the ruling, described it as an unfair decision to make the Nigerian striker a goal less but tips him to get back stronger.
“It's unfair. Ighalo’s shot was on target, the deflection off the defender only changed the direction by this much (gesturing an inch between his thumb and index finger), Flores was quoted by Mirror.
“It's strange – for me, it's not fair. So we have Ighalo with one goal less, when Cahill was trying to stop it?
“Fortunately, Ighalo is very strong and confident. It is not a problem for him,” he ended.
The Hornets who are ninth on the English topflight log with 29 points will face Southampton on Wednesday evening.
