PREMIER - Bail application refused, Benjamin Mendy still in custody

After being charged with four charges of rape and one sexual assault, Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was denied bail on Wednesday and will stay in jail until his trial begins on September 10.
Mendy, 27, has been held in a jail in Liverpool, northwest England, since last Friday, when he appeared in court and was charged.
In a secret session that lasted about 50 minutes, a second bail application was filed, but it was denied. The international player for France did not show up for the hearing.
Mendy is accused of assaulting three women at his house, one of them is under the age of 18. Three of the rapes are said to have occurred in October 2020, and he is suspected of sexually assaulting a lady in January of this year. He's also accused of rapping a lady earlier this month.
Manchester City has suspended Mendy pending the outcome of an inquiry.
