Maurice Cooreman, Akwa United manager, has waved aside the threat posed by the visiting Kano Pillars in their quest to improve their standing on the table, insisting that the former league champions should be the ones fearing them ahead of their week 25 encounter.

Pillars will be the guest of Akwa United at the Nest of Champions, Uyo, on Sunday and Cooreman, who has just been reinstated as United coach after a lengthy suspension, is very optimistic of victory over the northerners.

Speaking on Thursday to our correspondent, Cooreman said the performance of the Akwa Ibom State-owned club should instill fear in the oppositions, maintaining that their plan is to get all the three points on Sunday. “We are not afraid of Kano Pillars.

If you observe, our side is not doing badly because our position on the table says it all. Besides, we want to improve and with Pillars coming, we will achieve that. “They are one of the best clubs in Nigeria and no one will doubt that but we are not doing badly, so it is Pillars that should be afraid of us,” he said.

The visitors to Uyo are presently having 36 points from 23 matches, which place them on the fourth spot on the table, three spots above Akwa United, who have played the same number of matches but with 34 points and on the sixth spot.

In the reverse fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium in March, Pillars defeated Akwa United 3-2.
