Jordan Pickford says that after semi-final defeat in the Nations League, he is spurred on by the desire to go one better at Euro 2020.

England lost 3-1 to Holland in the semi of the new competition a year after going out of the 2018 World Cup at the same stage.

The best thing about it is that sometimes these results make us better in the future.

Just as with Croatia in Russia they led only to be beaten after extra-time and their search for a first trophy since 1966 goes on.

Despite the disappointment, the run to the last four continues the progress shown by Gareth Southgate's side and with qualifying for next summer's Euro's already underway, Pickford is looking ahead to that tournament.

He told beIN Sports: "The best thing about it is that sometimes these results make us better in the future.

"We have got a big Euro 2020 coming up next year and hopefully this will spur us on a bit more to try and get through to a final because we have had two semi-final defeats but we learn and we keep going."

A Marcus Rashford penalty had given England the lead against Holland in Portugal only for Matthijs De Ligt to equalise with a header.

The match went into extra-time where defensive mistakes handed Ronald Koeman's side the advantage.

England remain in Portugal to play Switzerland in the Nations League third place play-off on Sunday with Holland playing hosts Portugal in the final later the same day.

England's players, many of whom played in the Europa League and Champions League finals last week, are next in action in September with home games against Bulgaria and Kosovo in Euro 2020 qualifying.

After two games so far England top Group A with maximum points, already four clear of Bulgaria in second.

England are 9/2 to win Euro 2020, the final being held at Wembley. France are 10/3 with Spain 15/2.
