Phoenix sign ex-Wanderers winger Sotirio
Winger Jaushua Sotirio has moved to Wellington Phoenix after his release by Western Sydney Wanderers.
The 23-year-old, who scored 11 goals in 81 games during his time with Wanderers, played 13 games last season under coach Markus Babbel.
He has signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix, who are rebuilding under new coach Ufuk Talay.
Sotirio, who was on the bench when Western Sydney won the 2014 Asian Champions League final against Al-Hilal, was not offered a new deal by the club at the end of last season.
"They didn't really have an answer so I just assumed I was being released. I spoke to my agent to find out what was going on out there and Wellington came on the radar and I can't wait to get started now," he said.
The former Australia U23 international, who won last season's goal of the month award for January with a curling effort from the edge of the box against Melbourne City, is the third player to be signed by Talay since he took over from Mark Rudan as coach.
Talay needs to replace a crop of forwards who have left - Roy Krishna, David Williams, Nathan Burns and Cillian Sheridan have all moved on after the club's return to the A-League Finals Series.
Sotirio said: "The past five seasons I've definitely had some ups and downs. I've experienced winning an Asian Champions League and coming towards the bottom of the ladder, so it's been a bit of a rollercoaster ride; but now is the time for the Phoenix and I'm excited about it."
Talay said: "I'm looking to bring in players that work hard and aim to continually raise their game and Jaushua fits that bill."
Meanwhile, Australia's women are 25/1 to win the World Cup in France, with the USA 9/4 and Brazil priced at 33/1.
