Pep praises 'outstanding' City
Pep Guardiola thought his Manchester City side deserved to beat West Ham United more convincingly than the 1-0 final scoreline suggested.
Last season's Premier League champions remain second in the table thanks to Sergio Aguero's second-half penalty while title rivals Liverpool thrashed Watford 5-0 at Anfield on Wednesday.
Guardiola's side were not at their best following Sunday's Carabao Cup final victory on penalties against Chelsea but the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss thought his players were outstanding against the Hammers.
"We played so well," he said afterwards. "You see the result 1-0 and it looks like it could be better.
"But we created a lot of chances in the first five minutes and we conceded just one shot on target. After 120 minutes on Sunday, we made an incredible performance.
"We scored against Schalke [in the Champions League] because of Leroy [Sane]. We cannot sustain the same players every three days. Everyone has to contribute. We cannot live with just Sergio - in the last 15 minutes he was exhausted."
Third-placed Tottenham lost 2-0 at Chelsea, with Guardiola adding: "Now we have a gap between the top two and third. Many things are going to happen. We will drop points and I think Liverpool will drop points. The important thing now is to refresh and recover for Bournemouth."
City are 8/15 to win the Premier League title again this season while they are 4/1 to beat Bournemouth by a three-goal margin on Saturday with Leroy Sane 5/1 to be the first goalscorer.
