Following a narrow win over Southampton, Pep Guardiola hits out at opponents' overly-defensive tactics when playing Man City.

The Football Association has asked Pep Guardiola to explain his version of events following his animated conversation with Nathan Redmond at the end of Manchester City's 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday.

The City boss spoke to the Saints winger following Raheem Sterling's 96th-minute winner and appeared to be confronting him in an aggressive manner.

The FA said it had sought observations over the incident from Guardiola, who has until 6 p.m. GMT on Monday, Dec. 4, to respond.

In his postmatch news conference, Guardiola said he told Redmond: "Last season he destroyed us here. I didn't know him last season, I realised how good he is."

That has been backed up by Redmond, who said in a statement on Twitter: "Yes, he was very passionate, intense and aggressive but he was only very complimentary and positive to me.

"He commented on my qualities as a young English player and how he wanted me to attack his team more during the game in a similar way to last season.

"I told him I was doing what my manager had asked me to do in the game. That's it. Nothing more, nothing less.

"Nothing negative or offensive was said towards me from Pep and that's what makes him one of the best managers in world football."
