Manuel Pellegrini has backed Robert Snodgrass to have another fine season for West Ham after the midfielder penned a one-year contract extension with the club.

The Scotland international is now contracted with the Hammers until the summer of 2021 and there is also the option for the 31-year-old's deal to be extended by a further 12 months after that.

Snodgrass started his career in his homeland with Livingston and had spells with Leeds United, Norwich City and Hull City before joining West Ham for £7million in January 2017.

After making a slow start to life in London he enjoyed an excellent 2018/19 campaign and has now scored two goals in 48 Premier League appearances for the club.

Snodgrass said: "I'm delighted to commit my future to this great club. Sometimes you get a chance to play for that one club that's special, going through that special time, and I believe at this moment that's West Ham.

"We're trying our best to keep progressing and keep moving forward."

Meanwhile, Pellegrini said: "I'm very happy that Robert has signed an extension to his contract, which is thoroughly deserved after a very impressive and consistent season.

"Robert brings many qualities to the team - great ability on the ball and at set-pieces, fantastic energy and work-rate, and excellent character and mentality in the dressing-room.

"He has proved himself to be a very important player for us, a good influence on those around him, and I look forward to seeing him make a big contribution again this coming season."

West Ham are 5/4 to finish in the top half of the Premier League in 2019/20 and 10/1 to beat Manchester City on 10th August.
