A leading football expert in Belgium has said that he believes Genk will be crowned champions should Goal King Paul Onuachu stay put at the club this season.

Speculations have raged over the future of Onuachu at Genk after his record-breaking 35 goals last season.

However, a top analyst Filip Joos has predicted Genk will be champions of Belgium for the fifth time should they keep their star striker.

Last season’s runners-up last won the championship in the 2018/19 season.

“If Onuachu stayed, KRC Genk will be champions,” declared Joos to De Zondag

However, another expert, Frank Raes, said he doubts if Genk can make up the 20 points that separated them and champions Club Brugge last season.

“To say that Genk will make up for the same 20 points they were behind last year is asking a lot,” Raes questioned.

And who will be Goal King of Belgium?

“If Onuachu stayed, the top scorer is known,” predicted Joos.

The new season in Belgium kicked off Friday with all top four teams – Club Brugge, Genk, Antwerp and Anderlecht – failing to win their opening matches.

Club Brugge and Genk drew, while Antwerp and Anderlecht lost.
